West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee halted her own convoy and rebuked traffic cops when she saw that normal traffic movement had been seized for her travel on August 8. The incident took place at Teghoria crossing on VIP Road when Banerjee was returning from the airport in a convoy of nine vehicles. The chief minister asked her convoy to stop and instructed traffic cops to resume the flow of normal traffic, she waited for a good four and a half minutes before moving again.

Bandit queen-turned-politician Phoolan Devi was born 10 August 1963 in a Mallah family in Jalaun district of UP. Following a troubled childhood and child marriage, Phoolan joined a gang of dacoits where too she faced abused, and was raped by a group of dacoits from the higher castes after being held hostage. After she escaped, she collected her gang and killed 22 members of the village where she was raped. Two years later, she surrendered and was shifted to jail. After being in jail for 11 years, she was released on parole in 1994. In 1996, she became an MP from Mirzapur constituency in UP, and was re-elected in 1999. On 26 July 2001, Phoolan Devi was shot dead by 3 gunmen outside her house in Delhi.

Displaying unrelenting determination, a boxer youth from Karnataka’s Belagavi swam 2.5 km across his flood-hit village to attend a state-level boxing championship in Bengaluru. 19-year-old Nishan Manohar Kadam not only reached the championship event on time, he even won a silver medal for his performance. Accompanied by his father, Nishan swam for 45 minutes to reach the main road and join his team. The three roads connecting his village are completely damaged or submerged right now.

In a horrific incident in Delhi, a man killed his live-in partner over suspicion of her having an illicit relationship. He was arrested. Ram Das (42) was arrested from Connaught Place here while he was trying to flee to the New Delhi railway station after committing the crime. An FIR was registered against him under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. Das was married but was in a live-in relationship with Payal and the three were living together with the consent of his wife. He later pulled down the body to the bathroom, locked the door and tried to flee. During interrogation, he confessed to committing the crime.

Scary visuals indeed when a man and his mother try to run away as a landslide happens in Kerala. The man had a narrow escape from landslide, while his mother trapped. The video shows a man holding an umbrella walks unknowingly on a Malappuram road. The woman in the video later understood to have been his mother. The mother and the son both look behind them and see a mudslide emerge out of nowhere. They run for their lives, the mother vanishes within a second into the falling mud along the stretch while he somehow manages to reach the corner of a building. The man’s wife and child are also believed to be trapped under the mudslide and are reported to be missing.
